Seeds of Sovereignty

Food & Land Stewardship Program

Seeds of Sovereignty is a hands-on food sovereignty program rooted in land stewardship, nourishment, and generational healing.

Hosted by True Alchemy Gardens, this program invites Mothers and caretakes of color and indigenous  alongside their daughters, Goddaughters, Aunties, and nieces  (ages 0–21) to reconnect with the land, their food sources, and one another through experiential learning.

In a world dominated by fast food, disconnection from land, and the erosion of traditional knowledge, Seeds of Sovereignty seeks to restore what was once natural: the relationship between women, children, food, land, and community.

Participants explore the full journey of nourishment—from seed to soil, water to harvest, fire to kitchen, and air to community leadership.

Through gardening, fishing, cooking, and cultural education, mothers and daughters learn practical skills that support food sovereignty, health, resilience, and self-sufficiency.

The program is designed as a family learning experience, ensuring Mother's and caregivers are also present to guide, support, and share the knowledge alongside their daughters.

Seeds of Sovereignty is inspired by the same philosophy that grounds the Four Element Renewal Retreat, recognizing that healing, nourishment, and transformation emerge through harmony with the natural elements.

Each phase of the program reflects one of the four elements, guiding participants through a deeper understanding of food, land, and community.

Participants learn how food begins with the land.

Activities include:
• Understanding soil health and regenerative growing practices
• Planting fruits, vegetables, and medicinal herbs
• Learning about pollinators and biodiversity
• Harvesting seasonal produce
• Connecting food traditions to culture and ancestry

Through this work, participants begin to see the garden as both a classroom and a source of empowerment.

For many youth today, food arrives packaged with no connection to its origin.

These experiences help restore a respectful and informed relationship with nature as provider.

Participants will:

• Learn foundational kitchen skills
• Prepare simple meals from garden harvests and fresh fish
• Create value-added foods and processes such as canning, salsas, salads, fruit or herbal teas, preserves, or garden snacks
• Learn food safety and basic nutrition

Cooking becomes a space for storytelling, skill-building, and shared cultural traditions.
